Moonlight Woodies Photo Album

(and Stories too!)

The 2003 Woodie Season is drawing to a close - and what a year it was!

Remember when we only had Wavecrest for a Woodie gathering place? Newcomers to the Woodie World are spoiled with all of the wonderful opportunities here in California to gather together with great friends, at great locations. We've definitely found that woodie folks are not just car people. We at Moonlight feel very fortunate to count a lot of these people as good friends.

Just as those of us who are surfers understand that surfing is not just a sport it's a state of mind, so too do we recognize the unique and special bond that is shared by true woodie lovers. We wish you all a wonderful holiday season!

Wavecrest 2003 was another successful event - especially for all of us who appreciate the 60's surfing ledgends and manufacturers. Along with Hap Jacobs and Dale Velzy, we've welcomed Don Hansen or Hansen Surfboards, Hobie Alter of Hobie Surfboards, and this year we showcased Bing Copeland of Bing Surfboard fame. Bing currently lives a little ways from the Ocean in Idaho for half of the year, and the other half at the ocean front in Baja, surfing as conditions (and old legs) allow! But no matter where he is, he shares the same aloha spirit and love of surfing with those who have lived the livestyle. This year at the auction, we were lucky to be the successful bidder on a classic vintage Bing surfboard of the early 60s. The board is in excellent original condition - non-restored piece of surfing history. Just another wonderful piece of surfing history to hang in our home!

Bing met us at San Onofre on the Friday surfing-start of the Wavecrest weekend. He was patient and talked surf stories with all the Wavecrest Woodie show and auction visitors (including the Woodie Babes, Katie and Sarah).

Here we are along with Bing and the addition to our classic collection. The next picture is Bing with a very rare "S" stringer, special-order classic. This piece was not included in the auction, but was delivered to us just for this photo.

The Wavecrest 2002 event was especially great for those Woodie lovers that are surfers at heart. In keeping with the "Legends Series" Wavecrest hosted another surfing icon, Hap Jacobs (Jacobs Surfboards) as this year's Legend. Hap had a wonderful day and was VERY patient with all of the old time (and some new) surf bums who wanted to talk story. Along with his long time friend and fellow surf icon, Dale Velzy (Velzy Surfboards), these two made Wavecrest an incredible day.

Hap and George talkin' story

Are George and Hap designing the next great board or trying to remember what they did with the old one???

While the rest of us are taking pictures and working at the Wavecrest booth, Katie and Sarah are polishing their woodie pedal cars with Maguires! Keep up the work girls - we've got to keep those cars lookin' their best!

Looks like Dale is trying to trade one of Hap's balsas for Kathy - George wants both!

Having both of these guys in a picture is is especially great for George and Kathy - the proud owners of the #2 Limited Edition Velzy-Jacobs Balsa.

If you were lucky enough to win a Wavecrest Trophy this year you know how awesome they were! Besides a wave cookie jar than plays Beach Boys music when you open it, you got an original mini-board tail and fin by Moonlight Woodies. Congratulations to all of our winners!

2001 in Review!

2001 Woodies at the Hearst Castle was a great success. We were so busy being on television and hosting the more than 55 woodies that showed up, that we didn't get to take very many pictures. Jim Esposito helped us out with some pictures at the Castle - Thanks Jim! Enjoy - Plan to join us for the 2002 Event!

Here we are - some of the "Moonlight" family at the Hearst Castle. For those of you who have been watching Katie and Sarah grow up in their custom woodie strollers, you can see that now they're pedal car size girls!

Mick and Robin Carolin and "The Boys" Maverick and Kona. How could you ever have a great Woodie gathering without these two??? NOT!

Jim and Patti Ferdinand showed up to make sure there were no fire hazards at the Benson party after dark! Patti celebrates her birthday in November - Happy Birthday Patti!

Here's George - a legend right up there with Hearst!

According to the newest Speed Vision - "Dream Ride" show, George is actually an icon !!!

We all had a great time - and the party went on into the evening. For those of you who were at the party (about 125 of you??) we hope you had a great time too.

For those of you who missed it - you r-e-a-l-l-y missed it!

We had great weather, great surf movies, great food, and a great concert by our own Bob Lopez.
